Introduction to the OCT Series Portfolio
The OCT Series was initiated in Auckland, New Zealand in 2023, emerging from artist Leon’s sketchbook explorations with interlaced octagonal line structures. This geometric language—built through the dynamic connection of octagonal vertices—quickly evolved into a visual rhythm of tension and release, shaped by variations in line weight, spacing, and color.

As the canvas expanded to A2 and beyond, Leon discovered the octagonal grid’s surprising capacity for figuration. His first portrait marked a turning point—leading to a bold series of large-format works (48 x 60 inches), featuring subjects that range from cultural icons such as Marilyn Monroe, Mao Zedong, and the Mona Lisa, to intimate portrayals of family members and self.
Through a multidimensional interplay of grid structure, connective logic, and chromatic composition, the OCT Series transcends the boundaries between traditional painting and digital aesthetics—crafting a new visual language that sits at the intersection of abstraction and figuration. Continually evolving, the series holds strong potential both as a collectible body of work and as a striking addition to contemporary interior spaces.
